HOW TO PAINT BIRD AND POMEGRANATE?

How to paint Bird and Pomegranate?

Q-More challenging to paint a bird
The students reflect that they don’t see the flaws in their paintings, until the whole picture is in front of them and on the board. Thank you Dr Tan for correcting their art pieces.
That’s the way to learn.
The students add: but not many of us take it gracefully, that is to say that our pieces are not right and need to be commented on to see where we go wrong. Thanks for Dr Tan, keep it up !

One of students say: as for me, drawing birds are my weakness. Anyway I did try. My second piece on the sparrow on the maize plant was indeed an eye opener. But it takes a lot of effort from me, not that I am complaining. have to see to housework and mother, takes a lot of my time. But I always make time to enjoy the works you taught.

Q-What are the key points to be aware?
This piece and the bird on the pomegranate tree is really challenging. We have to see to proportion of the bird and the fruit of the pomegranate and branches of the tree too.

The sketch was important in the first place. Applying colors was not hard.

Q-How to do coloring?

Tree trunk and branches are to be painted in brown. Note the tones. This gives the texture of bark.
Must take note of the flow of branches. Where the fruit appears, we must make sure that branch is strong enough to bear it. One mistake which is shortening it to make way for the branch to flow down thus causing the position of the branch an unnatural looks ,is a mistake

Bird – Attention is made to its beak, wings, tail and legs. Load brush with yellow and tip indigo to apply on beak. Yellow and orange and red for the throat and breast.

Turquoise on top of wing and progress of indigo to the feathers tip. Dots are applied to the middle back of bird to offer 3-D effect and people’s eyes will focus on it.The neck needs the ‘furry’ touch. Light red is applied.

Now comes the pomegranate (the main one on the left). Do not divide the fruit with a line down in the center. Gradually merge your colors after dotting the seeds with carmine. Wow, the effect is beautiful. As I have said in the previous pieces, colors are applied layer by layer. It does not matter, just apply light tones in the beginning followed by darkening it in the next round. As to the other three fruits on the right, carmine should merge with turquoise to give an effect of ripening. There is contrast with no lines.
This can only be done when the location is wet.

Indigo on the leaves. Make sure the tone is there to offer shadow effect.
So much for now. Look forward to next week’s lesson.
